Official: Switzerland yet to join EU’s 11th round of sanctions
GENEVA/BRUSSELS, Jun 28 (PRIME) -- Switzerland has not yet joined the 11th round of anti-Russian sanctions of the E.U. because it needs to amend its legislation, Fabian Maienfisch, spokesperson for Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), told PRIME on Wednesday.
The Federal Council expanded its anti-Russian sanction lists by including 71 individuals and 33 Russian companies following the 11th round of E.U. sanctions, and said that Switzerland will join the package fully in August.
“The list of sanctioned individuals and companies can be adapted and adopted swiftly. Other E.U. measures should be first introduced to Swiss legislation demanding a decision of the Federal Council anyway. The Federal Council will discuss the 11th package in due time and make a decision after that,” Maienfisch said.
A high-ranking European official told reporters in Brussels that the E.U. would discuss using frozen Russian assets in order to help Ukraine during the summit on June 29.
“We will have debates, but their result is unclear. The topic is divisive, it has many technical moments and many side effects,” the source said.
